The Upbeat Collective - MAY UPDATE

Greetings everyone

Trust you all had a great weekend, be it celebrating Mother’s Day, basking in the great weather, catching up on sports, spending time with loved ones, engaging in work, or simply relaxing!  Below is the latest update for The Upbeat Collective.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • A group of us ventured out to the ANZAC Day parade in Onehunga and handed out baking to bystanders.  It was awesome to put a smile on many people’s faces!  Check out our Facebook page for photos. https://www.facebook.com/upbeatnz
  • The first monthly meeting was held last Wednesday and there were great discussions around future events and projects to focus on (check updates for more details).  Don’t forget, the meetings are totally optional and are a great way to mix and mingle with like-minded people.
  • Upbeat Collective member Nicole Lin introduced me to the talented Kiran Patel, founder of the Young Innovators Collective https://www.facebook.com/younginnovatorscollective
  • Kiran has great passion for enabling opportunities for youth and we’ll be looking at ways to collaborate and to ‘bring ideas to life’.

GET INVOLVED
Youthline Street Appeal – 23/24 May
Upbeat Collective member Anuksha Singh is keen to find more volunteers to help with the appeal collection on Fri 23 or Fri 24 May.  The Street Appeal is an integral part of their fundraising, however it is also very important for Youthline to get amongst community to raise awareness of Youthline and its services.  http://youthline.co.nz/

I will personally be helping on Saturday 24 May in the morning (likely 10am-1pm in the City/Ponsonby) so let me know if you wish to join me and I can register our interest.  Message me at upbeatcollective.nz@gmail.com

Any questions, queries or communications around any of the above please contact Anuksha at Anuksha@youthline.co.nz

Pink Shirt Day – 23 May
Pink Shirt day is all about action – we can all take the simplest action by wearing a pink shirt on Fri 23 May.  In this way you show you are an ally, and are committed to reducing bullying and promoting positive relationships.   Check out this link for more info:  http://www.pinkshirtday.org.nz/

I plan to show my support by requesting collection buckets and selling wristbands.  I also plan to post positive messages on social media about reducing bullying.  Get involved too and share your plans on our FB page!

Ronald McDonald House & Selwyn Village
We are currently in the process of contacting both places to see what they need help with.  This could range anywhere from spending time and providing support and advice to people, donating items, or making meals.  More soon!

Community Police – Avondale/Waterview
I had a recent discussion with the police who are keen to put on a community BBQ event to raise awareness of neighborhood patrols.  They need help to bring it to life, so I will confirm what ways we could contribute (eg. Help organise BBQ, meet and greet, help with promotion).
